The Philippines particularly the island of Panay is endowed with different minerals and gemstones like Agate, Carnelian, Jasper, Jade, Petrified wood, Onyx and a lot of chalcedony. Having some knowledge of gemstone polishing and identification which I have learned from my travel in East Africa, I consider this an opportunity to promote my my province through arts and crafts using precious gemstones which can be made into colorful accessories and fine jewelries.
To start with, rock tumbling is the easiest thing to do for first time crafter and gemstone lovers. Rock tumbling could be done by anyone who has the passion for gemstones. All you need to do is a Rock Tumbler complete with polishing grits. One of the limitations in rock tumbling for hobbyist in the Philippines is the lack of lapidary supplies in the local market.
